Parmigana is just as scrumptious as his namesake Aussie pub favourite. Caramel brown all over with two little bottom teeth that stick out when he’s concentrating.
Looks aren’t everything though, and this kid is absolutely as sweet as can be. He loves nothing better than curling up on the sofa with his foster parents, and he will never, ever be far from your side. Like most English Bulldogs he considers his hobbies napping, eating and outside adventures. While he loves to have humans close by, Parmigana is also really happy to do his own thing – wandering around the garden, exploring the house and smooching his foster siblings. He doesn’t mind having dog siblings, but they would need to be patient with him while he learns his place. He can be both a bully (at dinner time) and a scardy cat (wandering in the garden). It’s nothing some continued training won’t fix.
Parmigana came into the care of Life of Pikelet all the way from South Australia because he has a condition called Spina Bifida. It’s non-degenerative, but it does mean he’s incontinent, but don’t stop reading! We promise that it is something that can absolutely managed with a good routine and high quality food, meaning his poos and wees can become as regular as clockwork. Previous adopters of our Spina Bifida babes assure us it’s just becomes part of the routine with time. Some use washable nappies and belly bands, while others allow for plenty of outside time. As long as he’s kept clean and tidy – he’ll be as happy as can be. He also currently has cherry eye in both eyes which will need to be fixed surgically. He’s not currently experiencing any ongoing issues, but his forever family will need to monitor them until surgery is appropriate.
In Parmigana’s new family we’ll want to make sure that the whole family is on board for this handsome pup, because he’ll be all in. He can’t do anything about his incontinence, so he’ll rely on you to keep his digestive system healthy, advocate for him and keep him clean and tidy. This sweet boy will need a family who has experience with basic training for dogs to make sure he’s a good canine citizen and keep his behaviour in check. He could be appropriate as an only dog, but you would need to commit to regular socialisation so he can keep building his confidence in social situations.
BEFORE you read Parmigana’s adoption criteria it is extremely important that potential adopters give great thought and communicate in their adoption application as to what their home set up and routine plan is for the first few weeks/months if they are the successful adopter of this most precious doggo. Parmigana cannot be settled in over just a weekend and then left on a Monday home alone while you return to work… There needs to be a plan outlined so that his foster family can feel assured that he is going to be set up for success in his new home.
ADOPTION CRITERIA
Deal breakers:
– Parmigana needs to go to a home where his family are committed to ongoing training. Without that, we think he might end up with behavioural issues due to his lack of confidence.
– Parmigana has Spina Bifida meaning that he is both urine and fecal incontinent. Potential families will need to demonstrate that they understand what this means and what they will need to do to keep him clean and tidy. We’ll want to see that everyone in the family is on board with having a Bifida Boi in the house.
– Parmigana’s foster family are experienced with dogs with Spina Bifida and insist that he continues on a raw diet to keep his digestive system healthy. Any change in diet for these kids can have catastropic consequences, so a commitment to this will be a deciding factor.
– It is not negotiable that Parmigana’s new forever family stay in contact with LoP Rescue and his foster family. This little chonk is a very special boy and we hope to stay in his life to support him and his family and see what he achieves.
Non deal breakers:
– A family or human who is home more than not, especially for the first few weeks of adoption so Parmigana can settle in.
– Ideally Parmigana’s wouldn’t be the only fur child. He would benefit from a bigger sibling who can patiently help him grow into a handsome bulldog.
HEALTH
– Parmigana has a spinal abnormality called Spina Bifida which is why he can’t regulate his bladder and bowel on his own. Parmigana will need a forever family that understands and is capable of changing doggo nappies (should they choose to use them) and happy to give him a regular daily bath (just his botty).
– Parmigana currently has a condition called cherry eye which is where the third eyelid pops out. It will need to be surgically corrected, but after a consult with our trusted vet it was suggested that we wait until he’s older before going under anaesthesia as it is not currently causing him any issues. His forever family will need to be vigilant of any changes to his eyes.
