PAMPOENKOEKIES

Macedon Ranges, VIC
American Staffy mix breed • 11 Months • Male

PAMPOENKOEKIES is finally on the look out for his forever family!

This is one of those dogs that you’ll wonder how no one snapped him up before you did.

Extremely handsome (goes without saying), very clever, and a real people pleaser. He just wants you to tell him he is a good boy.

Food motivated yes, but he’ll take a cuddle from his favourite human over a steak. He just loves people.

But Pampoenkoekies (or as we call him “Cookies”) is also a very social boy. He has lived in foster care for a good 7-ish months. His first best friend at Life of Pikelet HQ was a teeny 600gram chihuahua pup. Now that chihuahua bosses him around like nobodies business, but he just loves all of his foster family. His current best friends are Pillsbury Puff (a staffy mix girl), Potjies (a ridgeback puppy) and Partridge Pie (our mix breed white spotty girl). He loves a run with the big hound brothers also in care and he is fascinated (but not focused on) the resident mini ponies and deer.

Loves car rides, loves meeting new people, loves laying spread out on the sofa.

So what are his “down sides” you wonder?

Well, this boy was originally bought by a young family living in an apartment down in Melbourne. And when he came into rescue care it was after we were notified that there was a Gumtree ad saying “free to good home”. The day that Cookies was dropped off at Life of Pikelet, he was very shut down, he sat by the door for almost 24hours waiting for his previous owner to come back.

Once he figured out that he was safe, wanted and loved at LoP, he quickly became attached to his foster mum. It has taken a while for Cookies to not act out in fear when new people visit. But he does now love a visitor or a regular friendly face and he isn’t as attached to his foster mum as he once was (like velcro).

Cookies will need a fairly experienced forever family, I’m not sure he’ll make a great first time dog for anyone, only because he needs someone to understand it’ll take a bit of time for him to decompress (very much the rescue rule of 3 days, 3 weeks, 3 months).

However, this is very much a family dog. He would be great with a family with or without kids. There is not a single dominate bone in his beautiful pumpkin fritter coloured body. And while I say he would be great with kids, it’s important to mention that he does like to jump up and lick your face a LOT. So again I’ll say, that this boyo would suit an experienced dog family than one that isn’t.

BEFORE you read Pampoenkoekies’s adoption criteria it is extremely important that potential adopters give great thought and communicate in their adoption application as to what their home set up and routine plan is for the first few weeks/months if they are the successful adopter of this most precious doggo. Pampoenkoekies cannot be settled in over just a weekend and then left on a Monday home alone while you return to work… There needs to be a plan outlined so that his foster family can feel assured that he is going to be set up for success in his new home.

ADOPTION CRITERIA

Deal breakers:

  • Committed to ongoing training and support to help Cookies continue being the best version of himself.
  • Another dog sibling would be ideal, a small balanced pack of canine siblings would be even better. Cookies has thrived living in foster care with multiple dogs for company.
  • Continued crate training. This is a dog that needs fairly solid routine, he needs his crate to settle and feel safe, if left to free roam during the night or for short periods when you are out to dinner, shopping etc, without a crate Pampoenkoekies WILL be destructive. With continued crate training it eliminates the destructive behaviour.
  • A family or human who’s home more often than not, especially in the first few weeks. Unfortunately due to how Pampoenkoekies came into to rescue care, he seems to have abandonment issues (separation anxiety).
  • Daily exercise, canine socialising and a healthy diet are a must to keep this little guy happy and healthy.
  • It is not negotiable that Pampoenkoekies’ new forever family stay in contact with LoP Rescue and his foster family. This sweet baby is a very special boy and we hope to stay in his life to support him and his family and see what he achieves.

Non deal breakers:

  • It would be a dream to find a forever family for Pampoekoekies who wish to enroll him into some sort of sport, like agility, sheep herding, dock diving and so on. He is a people pleaser and would pick up a sport or activity super fast to make you happy and in turn it would make him happy.

HEALTH

Pampoenkoekies in excellent health. He has been desexed and fully vaccinated, he eats a premium balanced raw diet and enjoys daily exercise with no issues at all!
